Metroid Prime is a vast game, taking place in a detailed and believable world. The creatures and surroundings are well thought out, and manage to make you take everything in stride. It guides you well, and it never even occurs to you that you never travel anywhere that doesn't appear to be a sinkhole. The fact that this never comes up on anyones mind while playing attests to the flawless perfection of the game. Each creature is described in detail, with its own believable niche in the ecosystem. The game loads invisibly in the background, and unless you're rushing through areas (causing the game to freeze from lack of loading) this will never be noticeable. Retro studios has made something entirely new. No one would have ever thought that the first person shooter genre and the adventure genre would work so well together. This game manages to incorporate them both into a believable adventuresome atmosphere. The most amazing part of this game that never ceases to blow me away (and I'm not talking about enemy missiles) is the jumping. I have never seen a first person shooter where a person can actually jump with accuracy. Somehow, whenever I play Metroid Prime, I know exactly where I am on a platform, and can land perfectly on the next one with no hesitations. I don't know how this happens, and still suck at jumping in other first person shooter games, but I can tell that it isn't handicapped to allow easier jumping. The music in this game isn't the sort that will get stuck in your head, or tell you what's going to happen in the game. The music just runs in the background, managing to heighten the tension and feeling. Everything is perfectly textured and no detail is left out. At one point you can even see fossilized fish frozen in ice, or mildew creeping up walls that are near water. It's these little touches that make the game perfect. The weapons are balanced, and just enough so that you get a brief respite, due to your new, more powerful weapons so that you learn how to use them, then you get thrown into ever more cunning and powerful enemies that will shrug off even your strongest blows, causing you to rethink your strategy, growing ever more cunning and powerful in a race to match them. Definitely a game worth buying. Metroid Prime isn't only a game... It's a work of art. No one can reaches places like the shoreline at Phenandra Drifts, or the landing site in Talon-Overworld, without pausing for a few seconds and simply watching the scenery. Truly a work of art.
This game surprised the hell out of me. I’ll admit that I was one of those who scoffed the instant I learned that the new Metroid would be first-person. A Metroid first person shooter? That can’t be done. There’s no way ... Read Full Review
