One of the greatest games ever created.

Metroid Prime is one of the greatest games on the GameCube, or on any system. The game has a fantastic atmosphere that just makes you want to explore every nook and cranny of the beautiful 3-D world. The game starts with Samus going to a planet to stop the Space Pirates once and for all. But not everything is as it seems……..

The gameplay of Metroid Prime is one of its biggest strengths. The whole game takes place in a 3-D world that’s covered with things to do: whether you’re destroying a new baddie, looking for some Missile Expansions, or scanning some Space Pirate data for important info, Prime never bores you. There’s just so much to do and the game gives you plenty of freedom to do so. Sure, you supposed to go investigate an icy temple, but you don’t have to. You can explore as much as you like with no pressure or time limit restricting you. In fact, the game rewards finding everything you can rather than speeding though the whole game (unlike previous Metroids). But the game itself takes place from a first person perspective, Samus’s visor to be specific. From there you can change weapons, change visors, and look around the environment seamlessly. The only time this changes in when you’re in morph ball form, in which case it’s a third person perspective. Overall, Prime’s gameplay is one of the best things about it.

Following the gameplay, the graphics in Prime are amazing. Everything from running water to explosions looks incredible. There’s also a lot of detail too. For instance, when there a bright flash of electricity, you can briefly see Samus’s reflection in the visor. Or being able to see the veins in an individual leaf. Little things like this make the graphics so great.

The sound in Prime is great too. The music can go from calm and peaceful to tense and aggressive in a second. The sound effects are also nice. Whether Samus reloads her missiles or changes to a different weapon, each one has an accompanying sound effect. Even the secret expansions and power-ups make little noises to help you find them.

The value was excellent back when I bought this game for $20.00. Now that it’s $6.00 or so, there’s no excuse if you don’t own this game.

Overall, Metroid Prime is an excellent game and every self-respecting gamer should at least try it. If you have the same experience that I had, you definitely won’t be disappointed.
