Only one word can describe Metroid Prime: Perfect.

Its something that only few games can achieve. Only a few developers have ever achieved it, at least according to the professionals. Gaming perfection. Metroid Prime was viewed since its introduction as a "Maybe" or a "We'll see" kind of game. No one knew what to think of it. How could a game that had been 2D since its conception be translated into 3D and still retain what made it great? When Metroid Prime was finally released, it garnered awes and oohs from every publication imaginable, and garnered a declaration of "It's not just one of the single most atmospheric games ever created, but it's also quite simply one of the best," from Gamespot's own Greg Kasavin. And its no wonder. Metroid Prime is one of the best games this generation for many reasons, the biggest one being its completely immersive atmosphere and gameplay. Prime draws you into its futuristic world through its graphics, its music, and its fast-paced gameplay. All of which are matched only by a few games. There's not much to say about Prime other than that it alone makes it worth buying a Gamecube. You can have hours of fun just exploring the game's levels and worlds and hours more replaying it on harder difficulties or collecting all the goodies.
