Heroes IV has too many bugs for a release.
In it current state it's very buggy if not unplayable for quite some people.
Most of these bugs are not fixed.
Techincal aspect of heroes VI
- Laptops are not supported, take this into account that the game might/might not run on a laptop
-The game was released with a 'flashing' mouse, it rapidly blinks which is a strain for the eyes.
Turning vsync off helps for some users but keep an eye out on your GFX card
- The game does not support AA.
- Long loading times
-Current multi player/online extras aren't working 100% still quite some bugs and disconnects.
- Last scenario necromancer the AI bugs out.
- Game freezes on launch for some users
- Game crashes
- Game does not launch at all.
- AI makes weird choices example: It has a castle with a bigger army then you, the AI decides to send a low level hero to you with half of the army which you naturally beat.
- Some battles are bugged, the game will crash even if you reload.
Auto combat is the solution
- If you speed up combat movement the sound gets speed up as well making units sound like chipmunks.
- Not optimized for SLI.
The list can go on but in it's current state there is a big chance that this game will be unplayable if you buy it.
I have the 'privilege' for it to work with a reduced blinking mouse cursor.
Regardless if the game is any good or not releasing a game like this results in a straight 1 in my book.
It's even less stable then the beta.
As for the game it self
Sound:
It uses tracks from heroes 2 which isn't all that bad.
The voice acting is not so good , it's one of those games you wished for just text.
Graphics:
Bugs and lack of AA aside the game looks like heroes V.
It's al right nothing to complain though you might miss your 3D town.
Story:
Along with horrendous voice acting comes a mediocre story.
It's just not interesting neither does it make a lot of sense.
Duration:
Can't say the necromancer campaign has 1 long mission 2 medium and a short one.
Game mechanics:
Heroes VI is more streamlined then the other heroes.
You could say watered down.
Some changes tend to make the game more city/combat focused while others just take out tactical parts of heroes.
Less resource management and less options for making builds.
It doesn't seem very balanced either, I finished about every fight with auto combat with rushing the last map under 40 minutes.
Conclusion:
If you are a die hard fan you might want to give it a try after the game has been patched, patch 1.1 did not fixed a lot.
It will still be mediocre but playable.
If you're new to the series or turn based games in general stay away.
It's ridiculous that such a bug game is allowed to be released on steam.
