Great for old-school Rangers fans, or just Super NES action gamers.
Each area starts out with you choosing one of the Rangers, and making your way through beating up Putties and destroying the occasional mechanical device (flying bombers, etc). Once you reach a certain point in the stage, the area's boss makes an appearance, but you don't fight him (or her, or it) at this point. Instead, your Ranger morphs into their 'powered up' form, which is slightly slower with attacks but slightly stronger. This form allows you to use a 'bomb' move that obliterates every enemy on the screen, although it's obviously best to save it for the boss fight.
The stages are fairly well designed; Area 2 in particular has the player making good use of the Rangers' acrobatic abilities. The boss fights are also generally good, with the highlight easily being the Area 1 boss: a skeletal swordsman who attacks with lunges, swipes and a sweeping projectile attack, and who continues to fight - by spitting fireballs - after losing his arms. The later stages consist of Megazord (mecha) fights against giant versions of some of the show's monsters.
The game uses a password system that is both simple (numbers only) and short (four digits). This makes it easy to pick up where you leave off, as you're given a new password at the conclusion of each area.
The only big flaw with the game is that it's a little on the easy side, but for fans of the original Rangers, or just players looking for a good action game for the Super NES, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers earns a high recommendation from this reviewer.
