Phoenix Games is one of notorious video games companies that have released games on the PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo Wii luckily that they were only released in PAL regions and not anywhere else because their games are that bad wouldn't even class them as video games. Most of those games are rip-off movies from other well-known movies that were released by Disney or Don Bluth Animation.
Even looking at the front of their games can easily fool people in buying their games especially back from 2003 - 2009 were many people were easily fooled in stores in buying their games either one their cheap or two the front cover had a picture of their favourite character from a certain Disney film or Don Bluth movie. Looking at the cover of Mighty Mulan makes you question about the cover of the game as in who are all these odd characters in the background, okay yes, this one is based of Mulan but however before Mighty Mulan was released on the PlayStation 2 another Mulan game was made for the PlayStation and was released in 2003 called Legend of Mulan.
So, in way the PS1 version of Legend of Mulan just got ported to the PlayStation 2 but with a different title name. I knew Phoenix Games were lazy enough to do this when it came to releasing Dalmatians on both PS1 and PS2 but didn't expect to repeat the same thing again with Mulan.
But the story makes no sense what so ever and yet if a child bought this game they would be really upset that it's not based on the actual story or at least the Disney movie. Even reading the back cover of the story makes no sense "Mulan is a young girl from a family of famous warriors. A large scale war rages in China and Mulan chooses to join Khan and his troops instead of her father. The war lasts for 12 years and finally Mulan is captured and she is taken to the dungeons. Will she be able to escape...."
This movie goes one for a good 40 minutes, with bizarre characters including a panda, a monkey and some badly drawn characters on top of that. Everything about this game from its poor animation making it look like a flash movie you've just watched on the internet and the whole thing is just badly done in every way including the animation for it looks choppy and badly detailed. There have been some moments in the movie where you think that shouldn't be in a children's game but in fact that it is, even the voice dialog for some characters feel a little out of place and may make you laugh unexpected at least but the animation is a little better than both Dalmatians and Dinosaur Adventure when looking at the quality of animation used in those games it’s like a little more detail went in this one but of course it's just a port version of the PS1 but on a PS2 disc instead.
You've got your standard mini-games in past Phoenix Games including Pairs which is just matching certain two card icons which gives you three options to choose from are 16 cards, 24 cards or 32 cards. Jigsaw gives you three options as well to choose from 24 pieces, 48 or 96 pieces; Puzzle has you choosing 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 and last but not least there's a Colouring book where you can colouring in certain scenes from the movies using paints but most of it feels like you are using Microsoft Paint but worse than that making it feel like one of those cheap nasty colouring in sheets you see in markets and only have three coloured pencils.
Is there some kind of reward after clearing all those mini-games? Answer is no you end up getting nothing in the end for a game that is supposed to be aimed at a younger audience will only found nothing but disappointment and no actual challenge at all. For a game that was released in 2006 hasn't even aged but is just a port from the PS1 version it is not recommended to anyone but the disc however can easily heat up that quickly once you've played it on your PlayStation 2 you'll never be able to play it again soon after luckily it was only released in Europe and not elsewhere around the world but it just goes to show that there are worse games like theses out there. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless you really do want to see how this game or even their other games on how badly looking they are in gaming.
