Minecraft is the definition of revolutionary
By now if you don't know what Minecraft is and you still consider yourself to be a gamer, then I'm taking away your membership card, so I'm not going to rehash too much of the details of the game. You dig for minerals, you make tools and buildings and machines, and you try not to get killed by monsters in the process. If all of that sounds lame, then you obviously haven't tried it.
The thrills of Minecraft come from building a massive project and then showing it off to your friends. Or making an overly elaborate railway system just because you can. Or the joy you get every time you find diamonds, to this day I still get excited to find them.
But the thrills don't end there, the randomly generated world and it's randomly spawned monsters make adventuring in the underground caves terrifying like no other gaming experience that I have had, because it's unscripted and you never know when a creeper will sneak up on you.
All the gameplay aside Minecraft is more than the sum of it's parts, as much as Skyrim is to me the evolutionary high point for single player RPG's right now, Minecraft is the revolution of where the industry is going to be in a couple years. Minecraft isn't just a sandbox game, it's an actual free form sandbox that allows the player to just play with it. The game drops you in and says, "Have fun" and that's what it is, fun, it's the most pure fun I have had playing a game that I can remember because it's not telling you how to have your fun.
Even though I gave it a 10, it's not perfect, the villages and NPC's are kind of pointless right now and I'm not sure how I feel about the XP being added. But overall the game has consumed me for over a year and I rank it as one of the best games that I have ever played, which is why it gets a 10 from me.
