Is it a RPG? A first-person combat game? A kids game? Maybe a bit of all three, but it is definitely not for everyone

User Rating: 7 | Mini Ninjas PC
At first glance based on other reviews, Mini Ninjas appears like a robust and fully featured combat simulator, disguised with a smooth, cartoony visual nature. That would be an untruth however, since it doesn't quite live up to the precedent set by other combat sims.

The Good: Beautiful rendering method not used often - the cartoony look and feel was really done well, and gives the feeling like it is a true world all on its own. Grass and trees sway, giving everything life. Controls and combat were simple, and easily remembered.

The Bad: For people interested in a fun combat sim with a different look, this may or may not appeal to you. I personally found it hard to get into, because it handholds you quite a bit, and NPCs actually talk to your character like you were a child. For those reasons, not only does it seem too easy, but it also doesn't seem to take itself seriously. Lighthearted is one thing, trivial and full of offbeat humor is another. Additionally, the camera angle was changed in certain areas without user input, leading to a wonky feel.

Summary: Given that I didn't play more than an hour's worth, there is probably plenty of game left to entertain. But I had a hard time getting into the feel of it for many reasons, and simply didn't enjoy playing what felt at all levels, like a child's game. More along the age range of 8-14 is where I believe it lands, as opposed to a fun smooth game designed for all ages. Call it personal preference, but it was too simplistic and too childish to recommend to all gaming fans, in my opinion. If you have kids between 8 and 14, they'd probably end up loving it.
