Perhaps the best baseball game since Bases Loaded 4 (NES)!!!!!!!

User Rating: 10 | MLB 09: The Show PS3
It is very rare for a video game to leap ahead of the competition the way that The Show '09 does. From pitching to base-running, to the ever-impressive "Road to the Show", this video game rises above the competition and draws the player in right from the get-go.

First of all the customization of options allows for the player to select pitch delivery style, batter's box, pitch fade, guess pitch, and even fair umpires. Regardless of what baseball game you grew up on, there is a pitching, fielding, batting and running option that will make you feel comfortable playing every facet of the game.

The hitting is right on, as homers are rare, but fair. No more 10 run games, unless you fail to watch the pitch count and turn it over to the bullpen. Timing is of the essence, making the batting experience much more realistic.

The one flaw in the game come from fielding. Players often make silly tags, causing an extremely high level of frustration, and there seems to be no penalty for running into things like other players and walls. However the defense is fair and the same tag you scream over will probably plate you a run, or two.

The revamped road to the show offers you the opportunity to guide a player through his career, only participating in the plays that you are involved in (options allow you to increase or decrease your involvement). While this can serve as a perfect way to work on batting and pitching skills, the lagging load times, will soon ware on your patience and, you'll find yourself avoiding the entire game type (especially once you grow to an all-star level, everything becomes routine after that).

Overall, this game is perhaps the best baseball game since Bases Loaded 4 on the NES. Sure it takes about 4 or 5 hours to get comfortable at the plate, but once you learn how to hit, prepare for hours of realistic baseball in the most visually stunning presentation as of yet.
