Great game, ridiculous amount of modes & content. Don't let the "kiddie" look fool you, PP is a solid sim.

MLB Power Pros 2008 is a great game. I had heard good things about the series, so I decided to pick up this edition, a few months after release. I had pretty decent expectations for the game, and they have been more than fulfilled. First off, the gameplay. You can use a multitude of control schemes, ive mostly used the Wii mote + Nunchuck. It took a bit of getting used to, but is overall fine. While its not revolutionary, there are no problems with it. The best thing about the game in my opinion, is the amount of content in the game. It has 2 full blown RPG/Life simulators. One, called sucess mode, has you guiding the player through AA, AAA, and finally to Major League Baseball. You have to balance practice, free time, and relationships as you attempt to make the majors. This is actually quite challenging, especially the first few times around. If you do not meet a scouts expectations, you will lose and have to start over. Its tough, yet rewarding.

The other game mode is MLB Life Mode. In this game you control a created player (including players who have completed success mode), or any major leaguer today. While you may choose to focus on just playing the games, there is a whole lot more to this mode. You can buy new cars, houses, and date women you meet. You can eventually get married, and have children. One minor drawback is as a hitter, you only hit. You do not control your player in the field. You can choose to either sim the entire game, and play when your player hits, or play the entire game and control everything. You can not sim just to where your player gets action in the field. It would have been a nice feature that is in other games such as MLB 09: The Show, but sadly it is not. But in my opinion, the RPG asepct more than makes up for the lack of fielding. Overall A very immersing mode.

Now it would have been a solid game if those were the only 2 major modes. But no, there are 2 more major modes to this game. One is league, where you can set up a custom league with any teams, rules, and players you desire. The other is Season mode. In this mode you are the GM of a team of your choosing. You can even decide to start your own expansion team, if you are up to the challenge. You control the typical roster, salaries, funds, etc. A great deal of customization and gameplay depth. Your first contract is 10 years long, with even more after that if you do well. Just as good if not better than the franchise modes on other baseball sims.

The sound is fine. The announcer will repeat things from time to time, and will sometimes sound a bit uninterested. The music gets on my nerves after a while, but thats not a big deal. And finally the graphics. Many people see the graphics for this game and its an immediate turnoff. I say, just give it a chance. The animations are fine, the players look very similar to their real life counterparts. The graphics are different, yet at the same time unique. Overall Power Pros is a great game. It has a RIDICULOUS amount of content and replay value. It will keep you busy for hours on end, pick it up over the likes of MLB 2k9 or backyard baseball 09 (only other baseball options for wii)
