Team Fortress and Tower Defense have a baby... the result is a joy

User Rating: 8 | Monday Night Combat X360
Monday Night Combat is a bite-sized third person shooter that offers fun and fast paced gameplay that's a little bit Team Fortress 2 and a little bit tower defense. The combo is tough to describe concisely.

As you play the game you accrue money that you can spend on updating your skills, or spend on building turrets to defend your "moneyball" from automated bots that are constantly spawning from your enemies "moneyball". Meanwhile (in Crossfire mode), you have to lead your bots to your opponents base to remove your enemies' "moneyball" shield, and destroy it. It sounds complicated, but the rhythm of the match will become familiar to anyone who has played a competitive third or first person shooter before.

The game also offers a single player and co-op mode where you simply defend your moneyball against bots, but the game's main draw is the Crossfire competitive mode.

Despite having only one gameplay mode serving as the meat and potatoes of the game, the class system adds diversity to how you can approach each match, giving the game the longevity it needs to go the distance.

The game's humor and art style may be hit or miss for some folks, but I appreciate the effort, and definitely found myself cracking a smile at some of the announcer's commentary. Graphically, the game is top notch.

Fun gameplay that doesn't lose its shine after the first few hours... what more can you ask for from an Xbox Live Arcade title?
