The Monkey Island games have always been the best of the adventure field. The second itteration of the classic series is no different. For a second time, you take up the role of Guybrush Threepwood, a pirate aspiring towards greatness and notoriety. Many characters from the orginal return, along with plenty of new ones, and they are all detailed wonderfully and have equally amazing theme songs to accompany them. (The graphics are pretty archaic, but with what they were working with at the time, i consider the graphics astounding - you can still get into them today.) You get to control guybrush with the familiar pointer and your handy set of commands, such "talk to" "open" "push" etc. Once again, you're also given an easy to use invintory screen that allows you to take objects at a pinch and interact with your items easily. The basis of the game is to solve slightly off-beat puzzles as the story progresses, by using your invintory and possible actions correctly at the right time and place. Often, you are not directly ever told what needs to be done, but through silly hints and tips, and conversations among other NPCs, you find out the screwball solution to your current problem. The brilliant thing about the way they execute the puzzles, is they all seem to make sense. You'll never find yourself moving around squares and circles and pushing levers that you dont understand to solve a puzzle a la Myst, instead you solve puzzles by interacting correctly with your invironment. As the story progresses, you move from island to island tailing your arch nemesis who returns from the irignal Monkey Island. You'll encounter hundreds of hilarious situations and comments, and if your anything like me, you'll have fun the whole way through. Its a hard game to find now, but you can buy it directly through lucasarts for about 5 bucks over the phone. Give it a shot if your an adventure fan. This ones a classic.
