This could've been a decent racing game with some good multiplayer, but unfortunately this isn't the case.
User Rating: 8 | Monster High: Skultimate Roller Maze WII
Based off the movie "Friday Night Frights", Monster High: Skultimate Roller Maze lets you race on various courses each with their own unique obstacles. Courses include Scaris, Skull Shores, Gloom Beach, etc. Graphics are OK. Each character is easily identifiable from the others. Controls are about right. Just takes memorization depending on if you are using the Wii Remote by itself or the Wii Remote with the Nunchuck. Character variety is where the game really lacks. In the movie, Monster High takes on various other schools until they can finally compete against Granite City and get their schools Crest back. It would've been nice to have all the characters from the movie in the game, at least for a story mode of some sort. The great thing about each character is their Skate Class and Ability. Characters with a "Light" class reach top speed easily but can be easily knocked over, "Medium" class characters are perfectly balanced, and "Heavy" class characters take a while to reach top speed and can't be knocked over easily. Abilities can knock over players in the lead or, as is the case with Draculaura, Lagoona, etc., knock over lead players and get a speed boost. Power Ups are also included in each course ranging from Oil Buckets to Water Buckets to the Monster High Book which chases racers. You can also pick up a Skates Power Up that lets you go a little faster for a short period of time. Multiplayer is unique but a bit disappointing. In Multiplayer, you can't compete against your friends and family. Instead, you and two other friends race on the same team. It's fun because depending on where and when you switch to your team mate can make or break your chances of winning but it'd be nice to actually race against other players. And changing happens frequently. After a certain amount of your energy bar is depleted, the game prompts you to switch to another character on your team so switching is mandatory, unless you are playing Relay Mode where you switch AFTER you finish a lap. Skultimate Roller Maze is a decent racing game with some unique gameplay but lackluster multiplayer and lack of a story mode of sorts ruins the experience. Regardless, it's still a blast to play with friends.
