If you're looking for a great PSP game, then this is the game just for you! Gamespot, rethink your descision!!!!!!!!!!!!
The character creation gives you complete control of your character. Like sharp blades of death? Want to have a memento of the creatures you've slain? The crafting shop is one of the main parts of the game. Kill some monsters for the gear you need!
Speaking of killings, this is what you really came for... right? Anyway, there are many things you can do to the monsters you fight. You can cut off some parts of them, do visible damage, force them to fall down, or even cut them in half! Most of these can actually help in the items you get. Cut off the tail of a wyvern, and you can get some extra carves, for example. You can even use the environment to beat them. For example, position yourself so that an exploding rock is in between you and the wyvern. It charges, and runs head-first into an exploding doom!
It also includes online play, ad-hoc, up to 4-players for guild quests and treasure hunts. There's also new features, including Felyne Kitchen (where you hire furry kitties to cook food for you, which can really help), and the Kokoto Farm, where at the cost of a few renovations, can make you rich!
Now, for every game, there are a few flaws. One big let-down is no true online mode(remember, ad-hoc is local online, meaning you have to be close to the person or persons you're playing with).
Another is that at times, the character doesn't act realistically. For example, when fighting a wyvern, the character enters fear mode; when running AWAY FROM a wyvern, they will run faster, and have the ability to dive out of the way of attacks. What doesn't make sense is they do EVERYTHING ELSE normally, like sharpen and heal as if they were calm. Also, they flex when taking an item, which leaves them open for attack, which presents the question, WHO FLEXES WHEN THEY HEAL????????
Another thing is, when fighting certain enemies, like the Diablos (horned monster that dwells in the desert) has an ear-splitting scream. Most wyverns, if you're far enough away to avoid roars, you can move in and attack. With a Diablos, entering in on a roar will still effect your character for a long time... even when the roar is practically over! Also, fighting wyverns can be a living heck without anyone to help you, giving the game its hard difficulty.
But, even with those problems, the game is still one of the best games for the PSP system. Ok, this wasn't the best review, but I did what I could to get my point across. So, step into the world of Monster Hunter Freedom, and happy slaying!
