MK returns to old school with that new school effect
With graphics as great as it can ever will be and only fighting like the old school Mortal Kombat, this game amazed me. The story follows the first three MK games in the series but retold from a bit of a future standpoint.
From what everyone is telling everyone, Raiden is fighting a losing battle against Shao Kahn. In a last desperate move, Raiden sends a message to his younger self in hopes to prevent Kahn from taking over the Earthrealm (It's Earth with the MK name to it). Now you take the role of a cast of MK Fighters in Story Mode in order to try to prevent what might happen. The cut scenes are really well done and it really tells you the story behind the MK series that everyone can follow.
New to the MK World is some of the new moves and features that make this game stand out from other MK games. For one, it's your basic Arcade Ladder, where you pick your favorite fighter and battle to the top of the mountain. Also, a returning favorite is Tag Team matches. Your basic 2 on 2 match, with players switching between two characters. Even four people can play at the same time, making it a challenge for fighters because with a single tap of a button, the match can change.
Challenge Tower is a series of 300 (yes, I said it) challenges that pit the player against different foes and different set of rules to pass. Once you beat all of them, you will have a reward that even I don't know yet. All I know is that Test Your Might is back, as well as Sight, Luck and Strike. Everything about it makes you wonder what is that final challenge and what that prize could be.
Online wise is based upon the online features of the last Mortal Kombat game and here is where you can go to different rooms and challenge different people as well as chat with others. King of the Hill mode is a fun little online mode that again faces you and a online opponent. However, in the foreground, you see a bunch of mini Kombants cheering or booing at you as you fight. It's a fun little feature to pass the time and be with friends.
With a good amount of characters and future DLC coming soon, Mortal Kombat is the step in the right direction for the series after a few hits and misses. It's about time that the real Mortal Kombat has returned!
