Great fights, cinematic story mode, rewards to unlock and of course bloody fatalities! That's Mortal Kombat
The game offers a great variety of gameplay that will lead you to spend different hours on it. Let's a have a look at them.
Story mode: well, I've played a lot of brawlers in my game career, but less of them had such a great story mode. Don't except to take important decisions or have a journey through the MK universe (like Mortal Kombat Deception). Nevertheless you'll enjoy it, because its just mad with love. Furthermore you'll have the sensation to watch a movie, in fact the moments between the cut scenes and the fights are fused together. You'll pass from one to other in a very naturally way. Therefore it's just a pleasure, in spite of the fact that Shao Khan is rather cheap at the end.
Fight: in this section you'll have a bunch of choices. There's the classic ladder option, where you pick up a fighter and try to defeat ten opponents, where the last one is of course Shao Khan. It's simply the classic arcade mode, which can be done in tag by your one or with a friend. Another option are the different "tests". They are just fun, a kind of mini games, in order to take breath from all the blood versed.
Challenge tower: this option allows you to face 300 little fighting quest. Of course each one gives you cash for the krypt, where you can unlock a lot, and by a lot I mean a huge amount of rewards (fatalities, costumes, pictures,...). In any case, the challenge tower is another way to spend time, without repeating the story mode nor the fight gameplays.
Training: of course if you want to become a true master, you need to practice your skills and those of all characters. This gameplay option offers you that. The absolutely best thing, is that you can select a fighter and try his or her fatality, without doing a whole fight. Just jump in and "finish him or her".
Online: then there's this option, which... I haven't' checked yet, because PlayStation Network is in "maintenance" since four days.
Extras: this is the last interesting option, where you can find the krypt. As I already said, it allows you to unlock a huge quantity of stuff. It's a kind of shop, with the difference that you find yourself in Dante Alighieri's hell, where a lot of doomed souls are just waiting for you. Choosing one of those you'll put an end to his suffers (of course bloody), in order to get your reward.
Those are the gameplay options, but there're a couple of things more, which makes this game so...different. As you probably know during the fights there's a lot of blood to be spread by each punch, kick or special move. Every fighter goes in fact nearly into pieces and the X-ray attacks do their job pretty well too. In fact when your special bar is full, you can perform this attack and watch what happens under the "skin" of your opponent. They're really effective and impressive as well. The best part of a fight is the end, when got the chance to finish definitely your sparring partner. Yeah, it's the moment for fatalities. Well, imagine that after your treatment the opponent won't ever be able to take a breath, because his lungs exist no longer.
