Just plain excellent. I've played 6 MK games since the first one came out in the 1990s, and this one is the best.
User Rating: 9 | Mortal Kombat PS3
I've been a fan of the Mortal Kombat series since the first game came out in the mid-1990s. This new version is the best one I've played yet. It has a generous helping of characters (over 20), modes, moves, arenas, unlockables, and other things, and it all comes together beautifully. The combat is scaled well, so that you never feel like the AI players are cheating (at least not too badly!). The graphics are up to par with other PS3 games, and the sound effects and voice work are well done. I really like the new additions like the x-ray moves, tag-team matches, and such. The campaign is surprisingly engaging and polished. The game is just well presented and has high production values.
I would have given this game a 10 rating except for the cheap boss fight at the end of the campaign. While all of the other fights are scaled in a way that allows you to have a fighting chance against your opponents, the last fight is ridiculously tough. My son and I spent hours trying to beat this guy until we finally figured out a fighting pattern that was cheap enough to win. Aside from this annoyance, this is a superb (and brutal) game. I highly recommend it.
