Dont believe these fakes, MK is back!

User Rating: 8.9 | Mortal Kombat: Armageddon PS2
Introduction Review:

I've been playing MK since i was little and was pretty dissapointed when i played MK:Deadly Alliance gone 3D as it seemed to have lost its roots (No Lu Kang.. wtf) I think MK4 was the last good one before this although 1-3 were the true classics. In this review i will sum up the true ups and downs about this game (in a quick in-depth review) and why its returned to its roots and has been on my mind ever since i first played it, when its not in my hands atleast ;)

Gameplay:

The gameplay is the core mechanic in all games, and how fluid/responsive the controls are is one of the things that either makes it good or simply bad. This game improves upon MK:Deception with more responsive controls, higher combos (yeah that are actually possible to do if your an avg. gamer). This game really feels like MK was meant to feel like and returns to the roots in this category in almost every sense on the word.

Graphics:

Graphics have become more important over the years, and erm.. especially this year with PC's getting so advance and the Xbox 360's drop. The graphics here are like deceptions with shined up sparks, gorier and more blood, higher textures and just an overall updated look. I hadnt played PS2 in a while and most games when coming back to them looked horrible but this has truely improved in great ways but little ways.

Modes:

This is the one place that comes strong, but comes weak at the same time. The konquest mode for one is very entertaining, especially if you were a fan of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks or even just liked the Konquest from Deception. So, thats the strong part. The weak part is, for one the puzzle mode/chess mode are gone and replaced with a Kombat Racing mode, and its pretty obvious what it is.. uhm, racing with kombat.

Fatalitys:

Kreate a fatality is so amazing that i had to pause and so do a few more before i finished this review, You can do openers' middles' and endings and as many as u can do according to your speed. Fans that may be dissapointed from the regular fatalitys being detracted can just do finishers as starters and it will just say the plain ol' "Fatality" we all love, but hardcore players can work up "Brutal Fatalitys" and so on.. This new addition is brutal, were talkin arms pulled off, faces smacked with body parts, spines torn, skulls ripped, heads torn.. you get the point.

Kreate-a-Kombatant:

The amount of content, or i mean.. 'Kontent' for the created characters is very impressive. This is one of the best (if not the best) custom character creation systems ive ever used in a game to date as its very complex without leaving players to stumped and taking to long to fire up a custom fighter into the arena. It goes very in depth and all the combinations of clothes just seem to match, not like tony hawk games where the outfits are already planned and u just put them together :P
You can also get items of the original characters for your customs, such as Jax's arms or kabals mask.. or even scorpions torso piece. The koins are now in 1 type and 1 type only and to unlock all the items in K-a-K mode will take some time, but thats what gamers love right? Arenas:

The arenas are in 1 word... Interactive & brutal, wait that was two words... oh well you get it ;) These arenas are definitely out to match the interactivity of newer games like Dead or Alive 4 as the stairs u can knock your opponents down are way longer, and more brutal. You can now knock them into any grinder, the floors crack, uppercut them into a new section of the level, throw them into convier belts leading to spikes, lava pits, acid pits, its all here in MK:Armageddon.

Conclusion:

This is the MK we all have been waiting for and in simple terms is a next step for fighting games. If you have read this far i would rather you go pick up the game then even read my final thoughts in this review, as you will not be dissapointed. This game will keep us entertained for hours upon hours, weeks upon weeks... months upon, well you get it. This is THE MK to own. This is a masterpiece among masterpieces. This, ladys and gentlemen, is The Armageddon.
