Love letter for the fans of Mortal Kombat.
Game starts right after the very first Mortal Kombat tournament. After a big fight Shang Tsung escapes and the whole island starts to fall apart. Kombatants flee from the island, but Liu Kang and Kung Lao fall into Goro's underground lair during a tremor. This where the actual gameplay starts.
Graphics are very good in terms of what you remember from previous MK games. Backgrounds are colorful and they all look delightfully familiar to anyone who has hacked Mortal Kombat games in the past. Sound too is exactly what you would expect to hear so in that respect sound is very unoriginal.
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is a some kind of old fashion pseudo 2D brawler where you beat everyone in the room and move forward that way. Game can be played either alone or with a friend in co-operatively. Although it seems that the experience was designed to be played with a friend and presumably someone who is also a long time fan of Mortal Kombat. Fighting system works pretty well and has quite a lot to it. Enjoyment really boils down to on how big of a fan you are, because this game is clearly made for the fans. This is made even more clear when you realize that the game is just full of all kinds of secrets and extras for you to find.
If you consider yourself a fan of MK, then you’ll like Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. If you don’t... then you probably won’t enjoy this game.
