The new fighting system is great. It's just too bad the blood and fatalities were toned down.
The newest game in the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe changes that though. The blood in the game has been greatly reduced and the fatalities are less violent. Now that's the disappointment about this game. Some of the fatalities are still okay, but in general, they are just too watered down. I really don't know why the DC Universe company cares that much about the game being too violent. They are the whole reason the violence was toned down. Midway should have convinced the DC Universe to allow them to make this game as violent as before.
But this game is still pretty good. The lack of real violence doesn't make this game bad. The game has a new game engine and I love it. It's an improved engine over the previous 3D Mortal Kombat games and even brings back old special moves some characters had in the 2D games and were missing in the other 3D games. This game also introduces Free-fall Kombat and Klose Kombat, which are some cool features. This game feels faster than the other 3D ones, which were kind of slow. The game still has an online mode, as with the two previous Mortal Kombat games, so that's great.
Another noticeable change about this game is the character selection. The game crosses over with DC Universe characters when it comes to the character selection. You get Baraka, Jax, Kano, Kitana, Liu Kang, Raiden, Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn (unlockable), Sonya and Sub-Zero from the Mortal Kombat side. And for the DC Universe side, you get Batman, Captain Marvel, Catwoman, Darkseid (unlockable), Deathstroke, The Flash, Green Lantern, The Joker, Lex Luthor, Superman and Wonder Woman. That's 11 characters for each side and 22 characters altogether. The addition of the DC Universe characters is pretty interesting and they have some awesome special moves. I really wish this game would have had at least 2 or 3 more characters for each side. I was hoping some downloadable content would offer something like that for this game, but unfortunately, it was canceled.
Overall, this game is pretty good. But the main downsides are the watered down violence (I mean, it's Mortal Kombat) and that the game could have had some more characters. At least the next Mortal Kombat game will supposedly be more violent than ever before.
