MK vs DC can be a fun time, but the lack of gore and unlockable kontent make for a game that shys from greatness.
Storyline:
Despite being non-canon, this game seems to take place after MK3. On the MK side, Shao Kahn has just been defeated. Raiden shows up to complete destroy him, however he tries to escape. Raiden then blasts him while he's in the portal, seemingly destroying the conquerer. On the DC side, Superman has just defeated Darkseid. After trying to escape through a boomtube Superman blasts him, apparently killing him. However, these 2 events happen at the exact same time, causing them to fuse into "Dark Kahn" and in turn, the worlds start merging. It's not a great story, but it works nicely and for at least attempting to make sense out of this, I give midway credit. *Looks over at Marvel vs Capcom 3* storys are good...
Gameplay:
The game plays like a Mortal Kombat game, but at the same time it doesn't feel like an MK game. Due to the toned down violence, the attacks are much less impactful (despite the damage seen on the characters). It's also quite slow and sluggish at times, I thought Deception and Deadly Alliance were much faster. It can be a lot of fun, but violence would've helped give it the MK feel that was lost in this game. That said, if you weren't into MK before, you might have some fun with this one. Also if you're big into your fatalitys................. Armageddon's were better....................
Graphics:
The graphics are actually pretty good, the characters models all look great and so do the backgrounds. However they aren't spectacular, especially compared to other games released around that time (Dead Space anyone?).
Sound:
The sound is this games best part, the effects are great, the music is pretty cool, and the voice acting isn't all too bad.
Overall:
MK vs DC isn't a bad game, but it's definitely one of my least favorite MK games. The lack of gore and hidden unlocks take away from the "MK" feel of the game. Though if you're into DC check this one out, as most of these characters have nothing but bad games on their track record.
