A perfect game for a handheld.

You know, this game might deserve a 7.6, but I would tilt it higher for a simple reason: it's perfect on the PSP. On a car ride or in a waiting room, this is a terrific game to lose yourself in. It's shortcomings rapidly fade away into addictive gameplay. In a day and age where people play cellphone games that would get a 1.0 on any scale, this is a blast.

Mototrax has a lot of "trax", more than any motocross game I can think of. Gamespot says about 30, and that sounds right. The tracks are pretty good, and escalate the challenge in a rather even fashion. The graphics are good for the PSP, but not stellar. The sound is the same. The gameplay doesn't break any records either, but when this all comes together in your hands, it's just a lot of fun. For once I'm at a loss as to why this game captured my interest so deeply. Frankly, I don't even like motocross games!!

Bottom line: give this game a rent if you want some fairly mindless, long term fun. If you're a big fan of the genre and looking for a great motocross game, this probably isn't it.
