A fresh take in a Baseball game

User Rating: 8.7 | MVP 07 NCAA Baseball PS2
In some ways, I really don't mind that EA lost the MLB rights. With some sports, it can be much better to play the game then to follow the sport. This is the second year for the MVP series to take part of college baseball. Shorter seasons and only having four years for a player makes for one heck of a fun experiance. The game play is top notch comparing to any baseball game on the market. With the exception of the analog fielding. I personally go back to the classic settings for this. The new analog pitching feels so natural, it will be hard to go back to buttons. The batting using the analog control is just as great. The sport of baseball is famous for the one on one duel among the pitcher vs the batter. If you play against the AI, you may find yourself tweaking the sliders a little to fit your taste. I may have spent a few hours tweaking to my standered of great ball before going into the dynasty mode. Which is another thing I love about this game, you have the freedom to adjust the game to your taste.

The graphics are a little weak looking. Players will seem to look alike. The ball parks don't look that great compared to the competetion on the PS2. The player animations are still the best so far on the field. Which means the gameplay, which I find the most important aspect of a game. Graphics can be pretty to look at...but if it isn't smooth with the gameplay, it can distract.

In fact, the gameplay engine hasn't change much at all compared to last year. It's even the same to MVP MLB '05. But again, the gameplay is so smooth even back then, it's not a problem.

While playing the game, you may notice the developers really focused on the pitching. Again, the rock and fire pitching will change how we play baseball games in the future! To be honest, that is the only major change from last year. Few more teams and not much for ball parks. Yet with the new rock and fire pitching is enough to keep me satisified for $30. More teams and fixes of some bugs from last year.

The presentation is rather dry again. However, it is nice to have a sport ticker going while playing. You also get ESPN radio news that is updated every twenty minutes. While playing a game, you have the chance to keep up with the real world of sports very well if connected online. This feature which is the same as last year is awsome! However, one must wonder why EA isn't using this ESPN advantage in the gaming area. Boosting up the presentation.

Closing comments: This is another great game of baseball from EA with great improvements in pitching. However, this company must bump it up a tad bit more. I enjoy a good college game of baseball, but they have some work ahead of them.
