I had MX2002: Featuring Ricky Carmichael, and I always thought that it was a pretty good MX game. The I picked up MX Unleashed, and every thing I wanted improvement on was there. The graphics were amazing in this game, and surprisingly good for the Playstation 2. The bikes looked great, the environments looked great, and all of the other vehicles looked great too. They also added a whole array of new vehicles to choose from, including a monster truck, a trophy truck, a dune buggy, a bi-plane, a helicopter, a 500cc bike, and a 50cc bike. this makes the game a lot more fun than the previous game. MX Unleashed also feels more realistic, where as MX 2002 feels like an arcade game. The bikes handle more smoothly, and there is some skill involved in jumping the bikes because you have to preload the springs right every time or else you wont win races very often. I thought that the races in this game were a lot more fun and challenging, but it seemed like there was rubber-band AI becuase after being ahead by so much, you can crash once and end up in last place.

The free roam mode was also very entertaining. They made the levels huge like they are in the ATV Off-Road Fury games, and there is a lot of space to drive around in. Within these levels, there is a wide variety of goals to complete aside from the career mode. These goals will help you unlock new levels, vehicles, and race types. You can play with 2 players, but I thought it was cool in single player how there were 6 other racers in the free roam mode with you. They are the ones you compete against. The vehicle sounds were really good in this game, except the sound kind of goes away when you go off a jump unless you double tap X.

The levels, although some of them are so big that they lack inner detail, provide a good variety of terrain to bike on. Some levels will have huge jumps at the bottoms of the hills for maximum height. Others have huge cliffs that you can jump off of. I just wish that the weather would change, because it would be fun to drive in the snow or rain. It does rain in career mode though, and that makes it harder to win.

All in all, this was a great game for fans of the MX series, and for motocross fans. It provides some replay value in the free roam mode, and there are a lot of cool races to win. I had fun with this game.
