The amount of enjoyment you get will depend on your ability to deal with frustrating platforming.
-The level setup and progression is not the best. The way the levels are set up are in blocks of 5. Beat all five levels of level 1, to unlock level 2. You can choose from 1, 5, etc, so you can choose to a limited extent the level you want to try.
The huge problem with this is that if for some you cant beat one of the five parts of level 1, you cant go to 2, 3, or 4. They remain locked. This means once you start hitting roadblocks with some of the puzzles, you are prevented from progressing. This would seem ok, but it ties in with....
-level difficulty isn't progressive. A lot of times you'll hit say level 22, and find some brutally hard puzzles. This game has a tendency to be either too easy or too hard, with no in-between. Some levels you'll breeze through, others will stump you over and over. As mentioned, you get an achievement for dying 1000 times, and its a very easy achievement to get. Also..
-control has some minor frustrations.
inclines for one. Say you have a flat segment followed by a downwards incline. If you land near the incline, you wont land on it, but skate over it instead. It's a little thing, but incredibly frustrating because of the precision you need to complete the levels.
finally:
-the game is frustrating.
It follows the very old-school vibe of NES ninja-gaiden style platforming, distilled to its essence. This makes it very satisfying, but also very hard for the casual audience xbox live targets. There's a reason why modern games have moved on from this style of gameplay, because it can be very frustrating to replay a single level over and over again till you run it flawlessly so you can complete it.
This is good, but also bad. If you enjoy a challenge, this is a wonderful game to play, and the levels are fiendishly designed to test your skills. It also has tons of depth and replay value. However if you are an average gamer, you'll quickly reach a point where you wont be able to progress without "cheating" and watching someone else's downloadable replay to see the correct path to run through a level. If you can replicate that at all.
Summing it up, it's a great hardcore game, and definitely worth the points. However the enjoyment you get out of it will depend on your skills, and tolerance for frustration.
