Nano Breaker Could Be So Much More......
Nano Breaker has the potential to be a spectacular game, but it seems like someone decided they wanted to cut funding and give it a mediocre paint job before a rushed release. In general, Nano Breaker is fun to play, but it is plagued by countless faults and problems that shouldn't even exist on a ps2 this late.
Gameplay: For the most part, the hacking, slashing, and combo system is a blast. Controls are very responsive, and watching your plasma blade cause fountains of blood to spray everywhere is awesome. It's unfortunate that later in the game, some of the enemies are downright annoying to fight, and will most likely have you running past them to just make it to the next area. Platforming detection problems and some bad camera angles sometimes come into play.
Graphics: Pretty bad. The cutscenes are of top notch quality, however the graphics look like late generation ps1. Environments are boring and fog/draw distance are almost unacceptable. The best part about in game graphics is the plasma blade animations and the overwhelmingly unreaslitic blood levels.
Sound: Groan! Moan! Slash! Hack! In game is enough to get by, but the cutscenes have some very goofy and over dramatized dialogue.
Value: If this game spent another year or 2 in the making, I feel it would be a contender to Devil May Cry, but it didn't, so it's nowhere near as good in any catagory. However, it's still a good time waster and has enough fun parts in it to keep a semi speck of glee in your eye.
Overall: rent or buy very cheap. Its fun sometimes, but the bad aspects suck out most of the positive life in this title.
