Fun to play, but has its flaws.

User Rating: 7.5 | NanoBreaker PS2
Nanobreaker has this Castlevania feeling, since it was made by the same producer, expect to see dark environments and find similarities within the controls of this game and Castlevania Lament of Innocence.
First of all,the game has an interesting storyline,it's about nanotechnology and the consequences it has over humanity (told in a Sci-Fi context),nanomachines that are supposed to improve people's health are now getting control over their bodies, the result of this is a creature called Orgamech (a very Zombie-like robot). The events are situated on a fictional USA island, where everything is controlled by the nanomachines, the chances of this plague to spread through the country are very high so a Cyborg (You) is sent to the island to eliminate the Orgamechs and help/protect a scientist to shutdown the Main Computer.
The plot of the story sounds very interesting, and it is,but it's not well developed in the actual game,in fact it feel's more like a "normal" Zombie Infection rather than a futuristic story about nanotechnology.
The scenarios are well designed From Sewers to Streets to Towers, etc, everything has this futuristic design that helps to get in context with the futuristic story, the lastest levels of the map have cool designs and they will make you feel lke youre inside a computer.
The overall graphics of the game are good, the characters are well detailed and animated most of the enemies looked very good, almost every foe has at least 3 forms of dying, cutted in a half, smashed, normal death and so on,it is very fun to kill the enemies in this game because they're well animated and detailed, you can see what's inside them after you cut them in a half and there's so much blood that the floor will get all red/blue/green or mixed colors, this is because you can choose the color of the "blood" the foes will have, remember that the things you are killing are Orgamechs so it is supposed to be oil and not blood... but whatever.
One of the problems you'll constantly get through the entire game is the camera, while you move the camera will have a constant eye on the main character but it will lose track of the monsters surrounding you,it's normal the get hit by a monster you didn't notice at all or by a laser shooted by a distant droid at your back, you'll have to constantly adjust the camera, keeping your eyes on the minimap is very helpfull when this happens.
The gameplay is basically a Hack n Slash where you excecute combos to destroy the foes, the combo list has a lot of variety,it is even more fun because your main weapon is a "Plasma Blade" so depending on the combo attack you do, the Plasma Blade will transform itself into different weapons such as a spear,a hammer and even a boomerang and others.the Plasma Blade's animations are well made and it has a glowish blue color that makes it look great.
The overall enemie difficulty is from easy to medium, most of the time they'll try to surround and hit you when they can but it is easy to kill them all with that amazing combo system, some enemies will need a different way of aproaching in order to kill them, some are armored and some others attack from the distance. In the case of the Bosses you'll need a strategy to kill them, each one
has it's weak points to hit, but sometimes its not that obvious and you'll end up fighting the Boss more than twice just to get your timings right. These battles tend to be fun except for the last one wich is a bit unfair and unbalaced, but again not impossible, you migt fight the Boss a lot of times to get the "rythm"
of the battle but once you do, things will be easiser.
But it's not all about Hack and Slashing, this game has some puzzle solving too, these puzzles are intuitive but not easy, you'll need timing and precison, there are box puzzles jumping puzzles and some others, the BAD PART of the puzzles are 2 the jumping ones, the camera will be SO BAD adjusted that it might look impossible to do the trick or you'll just won't see at all where to jump next, and you'll want to destroy your game in rage and anger, but stay calm just keep trying and you'll do it.
Game Music and sounds fit well with the scenarios, there aren't GREAT songs but there's none particulary bad, they're just right.
Replay value? well you unlock 2 more characters to play with, some other extra stuff, and ofcourse the CGI movies so you can watch them anytime you want.
This game had some great ideas but they were treated generically and the game itself feels So-So, but it is not a bad game at all,it's enjoyable to kill hordes of orgamechs, the overall difficulty is Easy/Medium, some Bosses are challenging and it has not bad graphics,so if you just want to pass the time playing a fun game without much story but fast paced gameplay this is a good choice.
If you liked this game try Ghost Rider for the PS2,its almost the same, check my review.
