Intense side-by-side racing!

The main mode of Nascar 09 is the Chase for The Cup mode. In this mode you play as a new Nascar driver. The first thing you do is a few laps at Daytona in Jeff Gordon's car. This is so you can choose settings that work for you: rookie or pro. You can change these settings at any time. After this you choose a series (Sprint, Nationwide, or Craftsmen truck) and customize your car with decals, sponsors, and paint. Now you can sign a contract with a sponsor and get racing. You start off with low level contracts that have easy objectives, they get harder as you unlock more. You are also rewarded for completing sponsor objectives. You earn performance points that will upgrade your car. You also earn reputation points for finishing races. The career mode is pretty long, it will take you a while to beat every series. You pretty much just keep racing and unlocking more sponsors until you complete the series. If you have the most points at the end of the series you win the cup.

In the Sprint Driver Challenge you complete challenges to earn performance points and rep. These challenges include things like overtaking opponents within a certain time limit, staying on the racing line to keep the timer from expiring, stay above the speed limit etc. There are also driver challenges where you race a Nascar driver.

In the race now mode you can create a race by choosing a series, a driver, a track, and customizing your race settings.

This game is pretty intense even with the difficulty on normal. It's not always easy to finish first. Even if you are in first the A.I. put up a good fight and sometimes you won't be in first for long. You have to be patient when you pass other cars because if you crash, you could end up at the back of the pack. It's fun to do long races with the wear factor on at least x2, because every driver will have to pit and anybody could win the race.

Nascar 09 is a solid racing game. You don't have to be a Nascar fan to like it. If you want intense side-by-side racing, get this game!
