NASCAR 09 is visually outstanding but lacks the effort that games like NASCAR 06 had.

User Rating: 7.5 | NASCAR 09 PS3
NASCAR 09 for the PS3 is a solid NASCAR game. To start it has some amazing graphics. These by far are the best graphics that any NASCAR game has had. This game does have some flaws though. To start the career mode isn't as deep as older NASCAR games like Total Team Control. You can't own your own team and you just sign contracts for cars that are normally driven by someone else. This makes the career mode rather difficult to complete because you don't get as into it. Another big issue is that none of the cars or trucks are classified by manufacturer. They are all just generic race cars. Something that has bothered me but almost no one else has mentioned is the lack of alternative paint schemes. This has been a problem since NASCAR 07 when drivers like Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart had no alternative paint schemes. In NASCAR 06 these guys all had at least 2 or 3 alternative paint schemes to choose from. In NASCAR 09 there are no alternative paint schemes for Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch and Kasey Kahne. In real life all these guys drive at least 3 or 4 different cars all year but EA seems to not think much of it since they haven't put them into the game. This really makes EA seem lazy and it shows that they don't put the type of effort into their new NASCAR games as they did with NASCAR 05 and NASCAR 06 and even NASCAR 04. In the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series there are tons of drivers missing. Guys like Johnny Benson, Mike Skinner, Ron Hornaday, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano are nowhere in the game even though they all won races in their series in 2008. NASCAR 09 is great as far as visuals but EA hasn't put the kind of effort they could have put in this game.
