The Best in It's class
and published by Infogrames in November 2002 for the
PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube. The last NASCAR
game made by them.
NASCAR Dirt to Daytona was the first game to have
more then 1 NASCAR series in a game. It features the
Dodge Weekely Racing Series(Hobby Stocks), Featherlight
Modifieds, Craftsmen Trucks, and the Winston Cup.
The game has a very basic menu at the start from; Career
Mode, to Fast Action. The Fast Action menu has: Single
Race, Beat The Heat, Pro Trainer, Championchip, Multiplayer
(Not Online, but if it did, the game would be that much
better.), Unlockables, Player Rating, and Options. Allen Bestwick
shows up on some of them, and leads you through them.
He's like a mentor, like Jeff Gordon on NASCAR 09.
At Single Race mode, it's pretty basic, you pick what
series you want to race in, pick a car, or custom make one,
pick any track, and go racing.
Beat The Heat gives you missions to do, some are easy,
and some are just hard. It gives you many diffrent task,
like: Time trial, catch the leader and pass him, hold
your spot with a damaged car, and ect. Beating all of
thse Heats will unlock you a legend(Richard Petty.) Allen
Bestwick, and some drivers tell you what to do before the
Heat.
Pro Trainer is pretty cool if you can figure out afew of
the Cup tracks. You have some Cup drivers talking about
the track, and what to do. They have a ghost lap going
around the track, and your goal is to beat it.
Championchip mode is pretty basic just like the Single
Race mode. You pick a series, and a car. You go racing,
and try to get as many points as you can to get the
championchip.
Multiplayer mode is basic. It's a single race, but just
with two people on a split screen.
Unlockables on the game are pretty cool, the add arcade
like things on it, or just a Hardcore Mode. You can unlock
mini cars, were the cars are much smaller, but with the
same size wheels. Front Wheel driver just gives it out,
you have to race Front Wheel, besides Rear Wheel, which is
kinda odd. Moster Cars is where the cars are much bigger
then the normal cars. Super Draft is were you can catch
major draft, and go about 30-50 miles faster in it, and go
to the leads in seconds, or just take out the hole fild.
Horn Ball is were you shoot out things from your car, that
take out the fild in front of you. Other unlockables are
Al Vengeance, Insane Racecar, were the car can jump, Oh
Dear, were a big pit crew member takes the place of a car,
and runs around the track, Horn Mortar, just like Horn
Ball, but better, and Hardcore Physics.
Player Raiting shows the scores you got on the track.
You get up to 100 points each track, you need to win, get
great lap times, to get the points. The points you earn
through the game are to unlock things, you need up to
5,600 points to do that.
Options are like anyother games. Ajust the controls,
gameplay, dead Spot, Sound, your name, and ect.
Career mode is built nicely. The menu of it, you have
your office, with Save Game, Race Calendar, News, Stats,
Hire Crew, and Garage. That takes you to the Career
Settings, Paint Booth, and Car Upgrades, were you buy
a motor, and ect, with over 100 parts in the game. After
a race, you get the winnings from the race, sponsers, then
you have to pay for any damage done to your car, and the
pay of your crew. You get a bonus from the Al difficulty,
the length of the race, and damage settings. After a good
race, you get offers from sponsers, and you have to be
smart, and put them in a good spot of the car, to be sure
your getting your moneys worth. After you win a
championchip, you move on to the next series. Just repeat
everything tell you go all the way to the top.
The fillings of the game are amazing with a GT Force
Feedback wheel. The wheel fights, you fill the bumps, and
the control of it is really good. The hand control is ok,
but gets boring without a wheel, and the gas button on the
ps2 game is difficult to use, you have to jam your fingure
into the button to go full speed.
Score
Graphics:8 Pretty good, not the best, but good for it's
time, and even today. The cars have good
detail, and so do the fans, and tracks.
Sound:9 This game is a sound simulator. The cars have
amazing sounds, and the background music is
just a basic country sound with the guitar, and
ect. that plays over, and over again
Fill:10 The controls are great with a wheel, its a
great NASCAR simulator for the ps2. The best
in it's class.
Gameplay:10 The gameplay is great, it dosn't get boring for
a NASCAR fan. There's many diffrent things to
do, and this game has amazing crashes.
Over all:10 I gave it a 10, because it was the first NASCAR
game to have 4 diffrent series, it dosn't get
boring, and it was worth $10. It's better then
every EA Sports game I've played.
