NBA 2K15 is a great game. When stacked up against its next gen counterpart, I dare say, this is actually a better game to me. I can only speak for the MyCareer mode because quite simply, it's the only one I even bother with. (I like The Association and all, it's a really good mode and I love how they have Trade Finder that does the hard work for you. But I've been hooked on MyCareer going back as far as 2K12 and I haven't had reason to stop since.) So what's stopping this from being perfect? A couple of things to be honest, but within the context of the game I can sorta understand why they felt they had to go this route in terms of improving things. But sometimes, as my title states above, the wheel is fine as is.
The defense is seriously ramped up from its previous year. Lanes get clogged and it's a lot tougher scoring inside. To a point, even on All-Star, it feels a little TOO tough. (I haven't touched this thing on Superstar and I won't, as I feel that would be just too ridiculous on every front imaginable.) Certain Signature Skills almost feel like a waste of time, but the biggest to me is Posterizer which was my favorite in 2K14. Equipping this in 2K15 feels like a waste of time because more often than not, even with it and you're heading down with a full head of steam...you're not going up to put some unfortunate putz on your poster. It's often a heavily contested shot that's coming off and heading the other way. The only other thing that's a royal pain is the Shot Meter. Oy, oy, oy. With certain games, okay, I can understand the point in having a meter. With a game as fluid moving as 2K, sorry, this had no real place in it to be honest. It frustrated me to no end originally and now, it's a minor nuisance as it comes down to knowing your shot and identifying the ideal point to release the ball. The meter means you're subconsciously looking at it rather than your guy and in trying to nail it just right, it's off more often than not.
That aside, this is still the best basketball game for your buck. MyCareer alone will keep you hooked (maybe I can play enough to make it to free agency for a change) and having the ability to make your own shoes is a nice touch along with being on billboards and game covers. The Association mode is really good as I stated above, you definitely have to be smart about the moves you make and Trade Finder does an excellent job of sniffing out the deals for whomever or whatever you so desire. (Wish Madden did this.) There's a reason EA Sports stopped bothering with NBA games and it's because they couldn't keep up with 2K. Would strongly recommend this game to all who love the NBA or even still, love creating yourself and just having at it. MyCareer will keep you rolling long after the real season has ended. (Which is about a month away from happening.)
