If you have grown bored of regular basketball games with strict rules that limit your imagination, then this game is for you. Soar above the rim with inhuman heights, and perform crazy handling moves that could have existed only in another dimension. It is absolutely true that this game is a non-stop, action-packed, in your face fun, read along to find out more. Just like any other regular street ball game, regular basketball rules do not apply here: No out of bounds, no referees, no 3 second clock violations etc. The main highlight in this game would be the “street Challenge” mode, though there are also other modes of game play such as playing a quick game, or play a dunk contest, and also the practice mode. A tutorial is also included, but players usually won’t bother to go with that. You can create your very own baller from scratch: His looks his style (Ankle breaker or the tough center and many more, such as the “prodigy”, his muscle appearance, and his nose and lips etc. Customization is great with all the meticulous details. You slide along the scroll bar to determine how high or low the nose should be, choose different eyebrow positions or colors to make the baller look whacky. Variations are plenty in the customization mode, and I have to say this is what makes NBA Street V3 excellent. After you have made your own baller, you can either create a team of your own to play a quick game, or enter the “Street Challenge” where you strive to emerge as the next street basketball legend. What’s special in the “Street Challenge”? First of all, your baller might have the great looks, but his stats are too low for starters; you get to concentrate on only 2 or 3 aspects of his stats due to the little points that were given to you at start. You will have to choose which stats to concentrate upon, and slowly work your way up. To increase the stats would be costly, and it all runs by means of “street points” which are sort of respect points that you gain from winning matches or tournaments. In this mode, you will have your own home court, which is again, built up from scratch. It is not an easy job to make your home court THE place, since it costs an awful lot of street points to buy banners, place the rims or even buy new boards for your court. The seats for the audience also cost a lot. You can configure the home court at night or even day time to make it look better. You have your own court and your own team, and you are ready to battle it up. You are basically given a few months’ time to make your baller THE basketball legend. To do this, you have to win as many random matches as possible, participate in dunk contests, take part in small tournaments and answer calls from your rivals once in a while. After you start to gain reputation, you get to recruit better players, or even legends that are familiar faces into your team. Up to 5 players are allowed in your squad. If your team does well, many players would be eager to sign up for free, sometimes your players might brag and you would have to take in another player to replace him. Your reputation has a maximum of 999, upon which you will unlock numerous legends and items for your basketball court. After the time allotted, you get to play one “Grand” Finale against some of NBA’s best players in a single elimination tournament. The right analogue stick is used as the “trick stick” where you can modify your plays and perform some great dunks, for example in the middle of a dunk; you can simply rotate the right analogue stick to perform an adjusted lay-up. The R1, R2, L1, L2 buttons are used as turbo to modify the type of dunks that you perform. You can self pass or perform alley hoops as well. Let’s not forget about the “Game-Breaker” system, where after you successfully chain up your crazy handling moves and some serious humiliating-your-opponents kind of moves, the gauge underneath your Squad’s name fills up, and you perform the all great super finish. During this mode, your opponents will be stoned on the background whereas you can jump high into mid air and perform crazy dunks, and mind you, even your team mates will jump into mid air and you can hook them up with a pass, so that they continue the moves in mid air and the last player gets to dunk it beautifully with style. Depends on the duration of time you stay mid-air, you will gain bonus points, whereas the score for your opponent will be reduced. For example you might get a +3 to your score board, while the opposing team gets -1 points. Conclusion: A great game, pure fun for basketball fans and sports simulation fans alike. Other than the inhumanly tall jumps that could make this game look ridiculous, I don’t see other minus points for this game. Most of NBA’s legendary players are present in the game, except for M.Jordan, which is a surprise. The graphics are superb with great details for the audience and even the leaves falling from trees look awfully authentic. Background music is good with numerous rap tracks. Sound effects are well engineered and you will love the sound of dunking.
