First off, let me say that NCAA Football 2006 is the best college football game released to date. The graphics have not changed much from last years game and in some respects I think they are a little weaker. For instance the player helmets look more matted and don't reflect as well as last year. plus stadiums and wide angle shots don't look as clear or crisp as last years. The field and sidelines look much better though, you see the texture in the grass very well and it truly looks authentic. Also with this years game the gameplay has improved in some areas by leaps and bounds and fallen back into the stone age with others. First... the hit stick. The addition of the big hit stick into madden was revolutionary and it worked like a dream, you could punish offensive members on the opposite team forcing fumbles and jarring balls lose after a reception. NOT IN NCAA, the hit stick in my honest opinion is awful, and if you ever make up your mind to use it you will find a couple of issues such as the 1 second delay between tapping the stick and your player actually doing anything. This becomes extremely frustrating when you have a safety attempt to lay a big hit on someone and you miss a tackle completely by about five steps, and I say five steps because when you tap the stick your opponent will be five steps up the field by the time that your defender actually moves. Also you miss more tackles than you make. If you time the hit right by pushing the stick 1 second earlier than you intend to actually hit the person you often find you missed the tackle. It's a catch 22, darned if you do, darned if you don't. The running game and passing game has improved immensley. also the defense is a lot better, so you will actually be challenged and lose a few games as opposed to the level of heisman and all american last year where heisman meant the computer penalized you or picked you off in order to make you lose. The computer will actually complete passes. however the running game has improved so much that if you are trying to defend against a mobile quaterback you better hope you hurt him, (i.e. - WITHOUT THE HIT STICK) or else he will squeeze off 10 and 20 yard runs all day long. If you blitz, he'll throw, or run where your not. All in all the game is much more challenging and recruiting isn't as fluffy as it was last year, it's harder to get all bluechips. NCAA is a great game and a lot of fun to play. The addition of all of the new modes of gameplay add a great deal to warrant the purchase of this years addition to the line.
