I have to admit, I have never been a fan of college football, but just recently, a friend turned me on to it. Once I heard that NCAA 06 was coming out, I eagerly awaited the reviews for it to come along with it, and since it's gotten great reviews, I bought it. This is hands down the best of the best. Madden and NCAA put together, this game is the best out of all of them. The major gameplay addition to NCAA 06 is the Race for the Heisman mode, which lets you create a highschool football player that gets picked by a college football team, and go for the coveted Heisman award. At the beginning, you must select your position, and complete a relatively easy drill for the college scouts. The better you do, the better the good colleges want you. You do however have the choice to pick whichever system you'd like to go on, but you may not be a starting player. If you go to one of the schools that offer you scholarships, then you get to be the starter 9/10 times. The actual way the game is played is fun and more involving too. On defense, on home games, you have the choice of getting your crowd pumped up and extra loud. Doing this will make the offense unable to make any play adjustments at the line because the players cannot hear over th massive amounts of cheering. This may result in a huge play for the defense. Also in NCAA 06 is the addition of Impact Players. Impact Players are generally the best players of a team, and they are marked by a white circle under their name. If either the defense is stopping you a lot, or your player is making a bunch of great plays, will send your player In the Zone. His white circle will begin to pulsate, and he will become almost impossible to stop. This adds a whole new dimension to the way the game is played. The only real new feature I noticed was the fact that during a timeout, you can coach a particular aspect of your offense/defense (whichever is on the field at the time of the timeout). This improves their performance, and allows for less bonehead plays. Overall, the gameplay in NCAA Football 06 is outstanding on all levels, and it's just a real joy to sit and play. The graphics in 06 are amazing. Player figures are a lot more crisp and detailed. Facial details and features are amazing, and although there isn't a huge amount of customization to your Heisman Race person, it still offers plenty of room for individuality. Stadiums are lifelike and accurate, and the fact that whenever your crowd gets loud, the stadium shakes, makes your stadium feel alive. The animations are fluid, and never have I experienced an in game glitch. Fans in the game are funny to watch, and the ability to make your own custom made signs that appear throughout the course of a game is just amazing. Once again, NCAA's graphics deliver on all levels imaginable, and it just makes you want to watch the demo version of the game, just to admire the graphics. EA's song selection for their games seems to be getting better and better. This game features a pop/rock sort of soundtrack to it, and all the songs (though I've never heard of any of the songs or bands) are really good. The commentary in the game is also a lot better, and it makes it feel a lot more like you're watching College Gameday with Lee Corso, Brad Nestler, and Kirk Herbstreit. Of course Lee Corso gives his predictions of the turnout of the game by putting a mascot's head or helmet on of the team he supports. Throughout the game, they make accurate calls, and complain about dumb plays. The sound in NCAA 06 is also an amazing factor, that makes it such a great game. Overall, this game isn't exactly flawless, but it is the best football game I've played ever. Race for the Heisman offers almost limitless replayability, and who wouldn't want to keep playing this game? Football and College football fans alike should definately check out NCAA 06 because they'll just be blown away.
NCAA Football 06 doesn't just start with the normal "EA Sports! It's in the game!" intro like seen in the past before kicking you straight to the over decorated menus with the latest soundtrack. It starts you out with a ... Read Full Review
