1997 - the year i played NFS 2 ! It was also the beginning of my becoming a full time game addict :)! NFS 2 SE & Half Life were two games i purchased with least hope & background knowledge and both contributed immensely to my gaming inclination.

NFS 2 is a game that had just about everything right back in late 1990s. The game was a simple "lap racer" with multiple track settings ranging from scenic North Country to the dazzling Hollywood Studios & frozen Mystic Peaks. With an option to race 2, 4 or 8 laps at 3 difficulty settings, the game modes included Knockout (last racer eliminated!), Tournament & Single Player.

Graphics:
One of the most beautiful games to look at back in 97! The tracks, though with floaty water & sky feel, appeared stellar in their rendering. The real stars of the show however are the car models, ranging from the McLaren F1, Ferrari, Jaguar XJK, Italdesign Cala to the concept Ford Indigo! A no of color options are available for each. The traffic looks convincing as well (esp the Jeep!) with appropriate weight & crash responses.

Sound:
Simply mind-blowing! The music tracks induce a real beat into the game with pulsating rock & oriental numbers to stimulate the fast paced thrilling driving! The car sound effects are well done, but almost all vehicles sound the same.

Game-play:
Arcade racing fans are in for a treat. Considering the fact that 1997 was not really a great time of physics based modelling, the crashes have been executed really well. Infact i spent loads of my time racing against traffic and crashing it for fun! Racers will give you a tough time at highest difficulty settings. The car jumps / crashes are suseptible to overexaggerated crash responses (your car may achieve an insane height that may let you see beyond the normal boundaries of the game level! But these are minor issues)

Content:
NFS 2 SE incorporates extra track and a bonus car compared to the original NFS 2. The game features car fotoz & videos that surely add to the oomph factor of the game. Split screen racing is total fun as well!

A must for arcade racing & NFS fans even today!
