NEED FOR SPEED...... racing sim? wait what?
First off this new NFS game isn't the typical slam bam thank you mam, speed fest we've become accustom too. This game try's to dip it's feet into the sim racing field and in my opinion does fairly well. It's not a full blown sim where you need to tweak your car every race through a complex menu system but it does offer a fairly hefty range of customizable options, via paint, body styles, upgrades, and tuning just not into full detail which many can appreciate. I first played the game and didn't really enjoy it much, it had awkward controls and was just kinda blehh other than the gfx of course which are amazing especially on PC, yes I tried it at my friends house on PC @ maxed settings and there definitely some more wood in the room other than his desk. After a couple races I quickly went to the menus and changed some settings to play around with the the game handles and I can truly say that upping the difficulty of this game makes it much, much better. Driving an insanely fast car with the tires ripping and ass end of the car swinging every which way trying avoid high speed crashes makes this game worth a play imo.
PROS:
Amazing graphic potential, especially on PC
Various difficulty settings
Higher difficulty and less hand holding while driving makes this game much more intense, you just need to tell the game to let go if you get me.
A decent upgrade system, not as complex as some other full blown sim titles but I think enough for many average race fans.
A very good sense of speed while driving
They did a great job on the cockpit view that has been added for all cars in this edition of NFS
Offers a drifting aspect which the true sim titles haven't done yet
Good strong sound in the game that shines with a strong speaker set
CONS:
Has a hard time identifying itself as a sim or arcade racer
It takes some time to figure out the control and hand holding settings to get them right for your style of play
Is not up to par with other sim titles as far as options go
Yet another race title that just throws you on the track and doesn't offer anything really new, but if you're just want to put the petal to the metal that shouldn't be of any issue.
Again I will say this game is a worth a look, the graphics are amazing and with a little tweaking of game play options and car handling settings this game can offer some intense racing action that sounds and looks great, it's not revolutionary but compared to many of it's similar peers it has the potential to shine a little brighter along with the other top racing titles.
