A Game Amongst The Street Racer Craze
User Rating: 7.4 | Need for Speed Underground PS2
Need for Speed: Underground is EA's first (and not last) venture into the street racing based genre. For the most part, it satisfies up to a certain point. The controls in this game are pretty straight forward, and really have no issues. The sound and soundtrack standout, as with pretty much any EA game. The soundtrack is good, but it gets boring after a while. The sound of the engines and rubber burning give it that sense of realism. The graphics are colorful, but a could of background polish on the graphics would've been nice. You can choose from many ways to customize your car with Decals, Spoilers, Rims, Paint, etc. And as you progress through the game you can unlock more options to make your car perform better with Engine, Tire, Tranmission, Nitrous, etc. Upgrades. The game also has many different types of racing modes. Just to name a couple: Circut, Sprint, Drag. You can also get your car on magazines as you progress through the game, which is a nice little touch. The multiplayer in this game is actually pretty well done, you can challenge other racers in various gaming modes. It also keeps track of how many races you won, and what your rank is online. Unfortunatly, the game isn't perfect. Progession through the Career part of the game is pretty much linear, and you may only feel satisfaction playing throught it once. The career can be beaten in about 10 hours. The sense of gaining speed while using Nitrous isn't there at all either, and the game doesn;t have much of that sense of speed. Also, the story is extremly shallow, it's probably the most shallow story line I've ever seen. This game is for the people who are hard-core racing fans, and are fans of the "Fast and Furious" Craze.
