Fun is the most important aspect of a video game. But is it the ONLY aspect that matters?
The multiplayer part of the game is a welcome addition to the virtually unchanged formula. The problem is the laziness of the development team again. NSMBWii propaganda was "Mario Bros. up to 4 players". But instead of giving the quartet of older Mario games, the Princess was replaced by a Toad. So we now have 2 generic Toads as the "new" playable characters. The game should have at least 8 playable characters.
The challenge of the game is big, and there are lots of hidden coins to find and exchange them for movies, so this adds to the replay value of the game.
It's sad the incredible success that this game had, because it shows that Nintendo can make lazy games and the audience will still buy them. With terrible graphics, no new things to the Mario formula (just 2 new suits), no story, only 8 worlds (please, in the NES era I can accept 8 worlds, not now), weird music and old sound effects, NSMBWii falls flat. Needless to say, it's still incredible fun, so if you can somehow do a blind eye to the game faults, you will have a great time (with a very high level of difficulty), specially if you are playing in multiplayer.
