Super Mario remains super fun...

User Rating: 8.5 | New Super Mario Bros. Wii WII
Most gamers have played or seen someone playing the original Mario 2D games, which are nothing short of all time classic in gaming history. Mario has spent the last decade on 3-D leaving his past behind him but sometimes too go forward you have too go backwards...

Mario Bros Wii keeps the same look of the traditional platformers that came before it but with a much needed upgrade. The levels manage to look modern while at the same time keeping the charm of the past games in the franchise's history, which is not a easy thing to replicate in this age. However at the same time you can't help but wonder how good could it look with an HD Wii.

All the famous sounds return including the wonderful music built into the game and its amazing how good Mario in this form still is despite keeping it simple, when so many games these days push the boat out to be as modern as they can be.

Gameplay is the biggest achievement for Mario Bros Wii despite some drawbacks that are annoying but never really spoil the game. All the traditional moves are still here and they are still simple but Nintendo have giving you new power ups to toy with and some of the most challenging levels you will ever play, especially later on and especially if your going for all the star coins. The controls are simple to master making it easy enough for new players to pick up the game but you will still require the ability to time your moves and to stay calm in pressure situations or you will die quickly. There is nothing better than playing with friends and expect many many moments of pure laughter and even a few times you might want to kill your friends but its all in good spirit. Some of the drawbacks are the levels can get really tight with 3 players so I can't imagine how chaotic it might get with 4 players and the ability to bounce off each other is a blessing and a huge curse though the bubble effect is a very handy tool to help with such situations.

The AI is the standard norm you would expect but its the levels themselves that is the real danger. However the later levels will require you to use some sharp moves to defeat certain enemies. The boss fights are a little disappointing due to being a little easy with the exception being the last fight against Bowser, which is frantic to put it mildly. Like so many of the Mario games the actual difficulty is the journey you take to reach bosses and not the boss itself, which is no bad thing.

Overall Super Mario Bros Wii is the true definition of gaming...FUN and that is the main reason why we all play video games. The game will have you run through many emotions, mainly panic as you try to avoid a untimely death but that's the charm of Mario. Even after you complete the game you have the option to go through each level to collect star coins to unlock bonus worlds and even if you don't fancy that, you will return to play Mario Bros Wii over and over. If your a Nintendo fan then you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy and you really owe it to yourself to play with a group of friends so you can enjoy the full experience of Super Mario Bros Wii.

I look forward to any sequel :)
