If you are the type of sports gamer who simulates through almost every aspect of the game except for the actual games themselves, then this IS NOT A GAME YOU SHOULD TRY. NFL Head Coach is very much a "commitment game". You will find yourself spending hours before your get to your first actual football game. Personally, I spent about 6 hours playing the game before I finally reached my first game.

The games itself are still exciting. I actually find myself reacting to the game more than I would in Madden. I cheer when we score or get a big play, and at the same time find myself wanting to throw my controller at the screen when we make a mistake. If you like maximum control over your team though, you may not like the fact that your QB waited too long for a receiver to get open and got sacked on 3rd down, or that your running back cut in the wrong direction and got pummeled behind the line of scrimmage. You can strategize with your players, trying to get them to do exactly what you want, but there will still be an occasional big mistake that you will get upset over because you know that you could have prevented that if you were in the QB's shoes like in Madden.

There are some very annoying setbacks to the game, however. One is that there are a few glitches that require you to restart your system to fix the problem. If you hadn't saved recently that may require you to make up what you've just done in the past half hour. This is something that they could have fixed had they just spent a little bit more time on the game. But instead they wanted to release it at the beginning of summer to earn a little extra money. Also you cannot tell how badly a player is injured so you won't know whether to put them on IR or not. Signing players can be tedious because after a few contract suggestions a player may refuse to speak to you ever again, ruining your shots at signing them. I don't know if they have updates released yet, but the rosters are pretty out-dated. I think they took the roster from the immediate end of last season, because players who were released and then picked up in FA are not on the proper team (such as T.O. should be on Dallas, but is instead on Philadelphia still)

NFL Head Coach is definitely worth trying unless you are like the type of player I described in the first paragraph. I hope they fix some of the kinks, add on new features, and release future versions of this game.
