Great arcade style football for on the go or just for a nice change up to madden

User Rating: 7.6 | NFL Street 3 PSP
This is the first NFL street game I've owned. I'm a big madden fan so I definately like a more simulation style game of football. If sim is what you are looking for, obviously get madden. NFL street provides a quick and dirty, simple, fun arcade experience. It really feels like a backyard pick up game full of rediculous trick plays and laterals. If you like football and enjoy some crazy jukes and pitches then I recomend this game. The fact is it's just plain fun.

The graphics in this game are adequate. Lots of jaggies and you can't really read the names on the back of the jerseys but the player models and feilds are good enough. Animations look solid and really graphics are about on par with ps2. In short they are nothing special but there's little to complain about.

The sound in this game is also pretty average. I dont care for the soundtrack really. The rap is fine and fitting and while some of the metal songs are very good, others make my ears bleed. Too much screaming and yelling. I'm not one that inherently dislikes screaming but in this game it's usually just annoying. Player and feild sounds are fine with appropriate sounds for collisions and big hits. Dont expect a lot of variety here but you do hear what you should.

There are a number of game modes. Of course you have the typical create a player and battle for street respect as well as a quick exhibition game. Besides just playing to a set score, you also have yards for points mode, defensive scoring, style point scoring, and a couple others. These different modes make for some variety and compel you to employ different strategies for each.

The actual gameplay is pretty good. You have a pletora of moves to pull off on offense while defense is pretty simple with basic takles and a swat ball/INT button. The game rewards you for big plays like sacks, INTs, fumbles, pitches, broken tackles, and wall moves. Wall moves are a big part of this game. Basically you can use walls to juke (you jump against the wall then go the other way) or you can sort of jump on it and run on it for a few steps before jumping off again. You can do big arials off the walls to gain even more yards. For passing you can execute a "no look" pass for styles points or jump and throw in midair. The trick system is good and IMO better than NBA street so it really allows you to perform creative combos that serve a purpose beyong just showboating, though there is plenty of that. This game is 30 bucks new at best buy so it's easy on the wallet. Sim football isn't really fitting for handheld gaming so if you have madden on your console, this is the game to get for your handheld.
