I really don't understand why EA 2006 Hockey is getting a lot of flack from a lot of video game sites. I took both this years hockey games and give 'em a whirl and I was surprised. EA was a solid game and it clearly has the edge over graphics. Players looks like their real life counter parts and so do some of the coaches. I know that these don't matter unless you can deliver on gameplay. Well here's what I have observed, Gameplay was solid and a level of realism was also taken into account. When checking an opponent, if you a 150lb player, its gonna be harder for you to knock down a player that is 200lb or heavier. You can also notice the realism when players fight, let just say that if you were Rob Ray (notorious NHL goon) and you were gonna fight him with oh I don't know Mike Madano. Chances are Rob Ray would eat the guy alive. Even when the penalties have been animated accurately as you can see a player getting a high stick to the face or getting an elbow to the head. No more generic falling to the ice anymore which is good. The only thing that I found irritating in the game is the computer AI ability so score at will. Its almost expected that when you score, the computer will too. Only remedy to this is knocking 'em down a lot or doing a lot of poke checks to break up plays. Comments like "the players don't seem like they are skating on ice" is just petty observation and frankly I did not see a difference with NHL 2006 and 2K6 when skating on ice. I own both EA NHL 2006 and NHL2K6 and to be honest with you, Im looking to trade 2K6. 2k5 was awesome, but this year it seems that they have missed the mark.
NHL '06. I haven't had so much fun with a hockey game since NHL Faceoff '99 on PS1. The game is just pure fun like a video game should be. From the way the AI matches up against you, not too hard, not too easy; the fast ... Read Full Review
