ONLINE play ha even more CHEESE EXPLOITS!
My review is based on the ONLINE portion of the game. The 1 Player modes play much better and more realsitic. If your an online player... be prepared to be disappointed that EA didn't address the exploit issues from NHL 09... and actually allow way more exploits in NHL 10! All of the exploits from last year are still here like the wrap arounds and turning sideways/backwards and then shooting. The across the crease one timers are still rampant as the D stands there like a statue taking pictures.
The game also seems geared to much towards offense as the puck carrier will bounce off your check and still keep control of the puck. I think this is the games biggest fault and kind of kills the game to a degree. This "Protect the puck" button is a DISASTER... and a total garbage game mechanic that just let's the exploit floodgates open. It's like a magic invisible shield where if you check a guy holding the 'Protect the puck' button... YOU are the one that bounces off the hit like it was delivered on you. ABSURD EA!!!
The FP Fighting is also just a button mashing waste really. How about innovating some thing dynamic with some strategy instead of taking the easy ay out like EA always does with a lame gimmick.
The game has improved in some areas... but it's Online portion is looking like more of a disaster than 09 was with the cheesing/exploits.
I was expecting more and hoping for the game to play more sim like... but the same amount of goals are scored... and UNREALISTIC 5-4 scores after 1 period will be very common.
I really think if there ever was a time for 2K to jump back into the mix... it's NOW! EA has left the door open and NHL 2K11 should 100% go SIMULATION! Like how it was back on PS2 with 2K5 or 2K6. Where it actually took some hockey savvy and play making to score on the goalie. NHL 10 Rewards you for being a puck hog and lugging the puck down the Ice using your 'Protect' button... when it should be abusing you for doing that... and forcing you to make plays PASSING!!!! Good game... but basically a tweaked and polished reheat. Online is a waste of time if your expecting REALISTIC hockey.
