I am a big hockey fan and also a big fan of sports games period. I've been playing hockey games since the first day I ever picked up a NES controller. As time went on they always made nailing that puck into the back of the net feel better and better. That is until this year. I bought NHL 2k5 or as I like to refer to it, the season that never happened and it easily made its way into my top 10 of all time. Everything about it was wonderful and it had commentary by actual voices that I've heard before. The create a player and team was fantastic and the animations all seemed very realistic and very believable. On top of this it was only 20 bucks which is insane compared to what EA charges for their not as good games. Naturally I was very excited to get my hands on this years edition only something was wrong. It was as if they had just rerendered the old animations to make the jerseys look shinier. Goalies neck protectors and chins were able to go through their shoulders. Players came onto the ice missing the top halves of their heads because their helmets never loaded. What the heck was going on? The rosters aren't up to date but that's not necessarily their fault because there were last minute changes. All of a sudden unless you knew the secret trick to score on a certain difficulty (yes there's a trick for each one) it took 50 shots to get a goal which leads me to the one good thing they added for 2k6. The goalies can do some pretty wild stuff now to make it more true to life such as laying on their backs when it's behind them to trap it. Still, I'd rather have my 2k5 and updated rosters.
