This year I purchased both NHL 2k8 and NHL 08. I've been a longtime fan of the 2k series so when it came to playing both games I was a bit biased towards 2k. I first purchased 2k8 in spite of the love it or hate it reviews. I felt that some people were being a bit harsh, but the gameplay felt cumbersome and not quite as enjoyable as it has been for me in past years. Then one day I was at my local Gamestop and they had NHL 08 set up for people to play. I played through a game of it and it was surprisingly good and a lot of fun. Everything looked and felt realistic. 08 doesn't have quite the defensive controls that 2k8 does but it felt like a more accessable and fun game to me. 2k8 is very deep and the new controls provide a lot of options of what you can do, and the game is rich in features as always. I do feel though that after some time the gameplay for 08 might get old where 2k8 may keep me entertained longer. Overall they are both good hockey games. If you are more of a hardcore sim kinda person then I'd say go with 2k8, but for casual fans of hockey I'd recommend 08.
