An experience that needs to be lived to be believed.
Using a pseudo 3-D engine, the game works as a side scroller that let's you turn in all directions, while maintaining a straight path. You can choose between the boy character and the girl character, as they both enter the dream world and collect spheres, while avoiding the enemies. All is well with this.
The catch is when a certain number of spheres are collected, you turn into Nights, a dream creature that has the ability to fly. And this is where the game becomes magical. Your have the direct control in the flight, and as you fly through rings, more points are awarded. The more points you collect, the closer you are to the game's secrets.
The game plays very well with a normal controller, but if you have a chance to use the analog controller, you will enjoy it even more, as the game was tailor-made for the analog configuration. Flight is covered by the analog, and you can tilt it to all directions, with killer precision. The level design is very well done, so you'll need a lot of skill to beat them and have a good amount of points. There are also boss battles that are fun and inventive.
If you still have a Saturn, or are planning to scrap one, give NiGHTS a try. It will be worth your effort to find it.
