A pile of cliches chopped up into one Nintendo DS game

User Rating: 7 | Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword DS

In a time long ago. I Alexander2cents rented a game from Blockbuster and that game was Ninja Gaiden DS. It was a good video game. But then I realized everything wrong with it..

STORY

Set six months after Ninja Gaiden, Ryu Hayabusa has rebuilt the Hayabusa Village. When fellow villager and kunoichi, Momiji, is kidnapped by the Black Spider Ninja Clan, lead by an Evil Witch who looks like the Baba Yaga, he is forced to find her, while uncovering the secrets behind the mysterious Dark Dragonstones and their relation to the Dragon Lineage.

The story

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay of Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword is both interesting and dumb at the same time. Lets get into the good.

The Good, you are able to use the the stylus to move Ryu Hyabusa on the platforms, flick Ryu in the as a means of platforming, Ryu can slash with the sword and swords. Ryu can dodge with the back buttons. There is a lot of variety. Solve puzzles. 3D boss levels with fully 3D graphics. Collect items and orbs. Summon powers.

Now we got that out of the way. here is the bad

Bad, Ninja Gaiden is very very repetitive. It's outdated and proves the Nintendo DS cannot handle such a genre at it's best. There are invisible walls almost everywhere.

The combat is tedious, you must walk through 7 enemies and cut through them. When you are done with them they will just come back anyway. It's so grindy it's unbelievable. The enemies are real stupid to. It feels so easy. I only played and hour into the game. But its still easy. And this is disappointing because the lineage of games is known to be balls hard. The puzzles are dumb to.The controls are floaty. The combat is limited. It's just too cliche to be fresh. Far too much Like Devil May Cry.

GRAPHICS

Not much to be said here. The prerendered backdrops are very pretty. The models are nicely animated. Overall the game has pretty graphics if you can look past the pixelated aethstetics. The 2D art though in the cutscenes is smashing.

SOUND

High quality as it ever was.

OVERALL

Ninja Gaiden DS looks promising but doesn't deliver 100%. I'd buy this for just the short burst of fun it has. Otherwise, I'd play a better less outaded game on the DS.
