I really wish I could've enjoyed it. It just didn't feel right.
Lets start with the obvious, the graphics. Absolutely amazing. If you can only enjoy a game that is a Beauty to look at, look no further. This game's graphics are amazingly well done. Everything is smoothe and fast. Incredible animations and collision points for any graphics, in any game. But perhaps this is where the game began to stop appealing to me. I don't care about graphics much. If a game is fun, i'll love it. I don't care how well anything looks if the game isn't fun.
That being said, the game is somewhat Zelda esque, but I got a little confused when I got into a fight. It's sort of like being in a Final fantasy battle in the sense that you can't move anywhere you want to. You can move around inside an enclosed area (which you later can learn to escape from). That's probably what got me annoyed. If it's an action adventure, I want to be able to maybe hit an enemy once, then not have to battle them. Maybe I want to battle, but I feel like just going somewhere else. I just didn't really understand it. Also if you haven't learned this already, the gameplay constantly requires you to use Brush techniques, a special power you have to solve puzzles and fight. You can draw a horizontal line for a sword slash, a circle with a line coming out of it for a bomb, or a dot on the ground for a tree. This is, and I will admit it, genius. It makes the game much more interesting than it would be otherwise. The sound is somewhat of a mix to me. I get tired of hearing annoying Squeaky voices and "blergablurburub" for talking. The music is nice, but I really don't recall too much of it besides a few main tracks. Most actions such as knocking somebody over with a sword slash have noises to, so that adds some sub-conscious happyness.
If you're sort of confused about my review, saying "Wait, I thought you didn't like it, why'd you say all these good things about it?" well, the simple truth is it's a good game. I just felt uncomfortable and uninterested. Most people would like it as you can see by other reviews, but I really found nothing I, myself could love. Every game I like usually has one thing I just love and enjoy so much, and this game didn't have that for me. So if you're into Zelda, graphics, and just a nice game to settle down with for a long time, Okami might be for you. And if you don't like it, it's still worth seeing what all the hype's about.
