They should've quit while they were ahead. Onimusha 3 was perfect. Worth renting, but too drawn out and missing oompf!

Well, the developers of Onimusha managed to create three astonishingly good games, and that was all fine and dandy, but they went and screwed it up by making this one. It's great to move past the three barrier, but only if it's good. The hero in this one is a new blonde-haired kid, surprising for 16th century Japan, but OK. After the third downfall of Nobunaga, peace was restored to feudal Japan, but now strange things are happening, and there are reported sightings of Genma. The emperor has corrupted and doom is imminent, due to ominous cherry trees. It is everything you would expect from an Onimusha game, but NOTHING MORE! The game is neat, but it never really kicks into high gear. It is incredibly long and miserably drawn out, luring you into a false sense of security that it's getting closer to the end. While a good game and worthy renting experience, Onimusha 4 certainly brought the legacy down a notch.
