I've played through a few missions so far and I'm currently in the mission where you're tasked to attack an airfield control tower. My impression of this game is that it's both fun AND frustrating. The AI has been mentioned ad nauseum, so I won't mention that. But the game itself will frustrate you. I'm playing on the "Normal" difficulty setting and I think it accurately reflects what happens in battle. There are times when it will take several gunshot wounds before you finally succumb, and then there are other times when you'll be running and repositioning and then you die suddenly and instantly, presumably from a sniper shot. This occurs when you're between checkpoints, which can be very far, and therefore, a long time interval, apart. You then have to reload the last checkpoint and fight your way through a fierce gun battle, sometimes several times, to just get back to where you were before you "died" initially. That's what I'm going through in this current mission to take the control tower. But I don't actually have a problem with that. It's just frustrating.
Overall, I'd say the game so far is mostly fun (especially when an artillery or mortar barrage is called in), despite the frustration.
The sound is superb. I recommend wearing a headset. The sound will submerse you in the game, especially if you play it in a dark room. Prepare to be paranoid!
I also like the stats that show during loads, which can be a little long. It adds to the fun of the game to read how many enemy you killed via gunshot, or artillery, or grenade, etc.
I highly recommend this game to any first-person shooter fan. It isn't too easy and it isn't too difficult. It will definitely tide me over until Battlefield Bad Company 2 comes out next March.
